The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts’ $43 million Long Beach Main Pumping Plant started operation in 2017 and has a flow capacity of 84 MGD. This presentation will describe the unique design, construction strategies, and operational challenges of this state-of-the-art facility.

Learner Outcomes:

• Understand the design and benefits of the ogee ramp wet well;.
• Understand how the plant physical scale model is used for pumping plant design.
• Understand flow drift issues for large pumps equipped with closed (channel) impellers; and Learn that pump ragging and flow drift can be resolved by using self-cleaning, continuous clog-free impellers. .
