This presentation review mixing applications, how to evaluate mixers, and how to optimally locate mixers. Mixing applications, the measurement and importance of thrust, the measurement and magnitude of energy requirements for mixing, and a method for calculating energy savings resulting from better mixing, will also be presented.

Learner Outcomes:

Perform a desktop study to determine if their mixers may be oversized and/or if varying the speed of their mixers could save them energy.
Observe the mixers in their facility to determine if they are optimally positioned as well as if the mixers are overmixing and thus wasting energy.
Evaluate and compare mixers based on their thrust, in compliance with ISO 21630.
