On January 1, 2018, the recreational use of marijuana became legal in California and the State instantly became the country’s largest legal cannabis market. The impacts to the Coachella Valley have been substantial, with land values in municipalities allowing commercial cultivation sky rocketing and with local utility agencies scrambling to ensure adequate water supply and protection of facilities and water quality from this massive influx of industrial activity. Our tour will feature some of the largest cultivation projects in the Coachella Valley, to meet with growers and the agency personnel responsible to ensuring compliance with industrial waste requirement. Attendees will learn about the cultivation process, highlighting the use of water, how facilities are optimizing and conserving water usage, what constituents can typically be found in wastewater flows emanating from cultivation facilitates, and what on-site treatment and pre-treatment technologies are being implemented. We will start the tour at the main office at: 78-138 Calle Tampico, Suite 130, La Quinta for a brief overview of their operation and walking though live grow operations through web cams of the facility. Next we will travel about 15 minutes to the actual site at 84845 Ave 48, Coachella to walk around the campus and tour a building that is under development and not yet populated with plants.
