90th FVMA Annual Conference
Christopher Pachel, DVM, DACVB, CABC
Animal Behavior Clinic
Dogs and cats visiting our hospitals must contend with new environments, strange smells, encounters with other cats and dogs, physical restraint, and other novel experiences, not to mention procedures and treatments that may actively cause pain or discomfort. Learning how to “read” our patients is one of the most reliable ways to ensure safety, and to improve the overall quality of the medical care that we provide for them. This presentation will focus on reading patient body language, navigating physical exams, handling patients in the clinic, managing hospitalized animals, and financial consideration of incorporating fear-free strategies into daily practice.
