Emergency and Critical Care
90th FVMA Annual Conference
Effusions in our small animal patients can result in both morbidity and mortality. As a result, we need both rapid assessment and treatment of these patients. As simple as it gets, there are transudates, including low protein and high protein transudates; exudates; and modified transudates. This lecture will focus on identification of patients that present with effusion, how to obtain a sample of the effusion for evaluation, and differentials based on the type and location of effusion present.
