Platelet quantity, clotting factor function and markers of fibrinolysis are commonly evaluated by laboratory tests during presurgical screening, diagnostic evaluation of a large number of abnormalities, and monitoring of critically ill patients. Awareness of test limitations and utility is important. A rapid overview of hemostasis will be covered. Hemostatic test interpretation and sample requirements will be reviewed with a case correlate.
