Within the last five years, several new antipruritic medications have been introduced to the market for use in small animal dermatology. This lecture will be an in-depth review of the itch pathway, diseases that cause pruritus, and traditional, as well as new, treatment modalities for managing pruritus. Therapies to be discussed include allergen-specific immunotherapy, antihistamines, glucocorticoids, cyclosporine (Atopica™), oclacitinib (Apoquel®) and Cytopoint®.
