13th Annual Global Embolization Symposium & Technologies
Purpose : To evaluate the success of endoleak repair using translumbar or transarterial embolization with the use of SquidPeri liquid embolic agent.
Material and Methods : 10 patients (mean age: 72.7yrs) underwent 11 procedures - either translumbar embolization (n=4) or transarterial embolization (n=7) between January 2014 and September 2017. Indications for the procedure included type 2 endoleak with aneurysm sack enlargement and endoleak type 1 which was impossible to treat with cuff extension. Success in embolization was defined as total occlusion of endoleak zone in angiography and absence of recanalization and aneurysm enlargement on 6-month follow-up CT.
Results : Initial endoleak repair was successful in 9 procedures. Transarterial approach was not successful in one patient and the case required a second attempt with translumbar approach. At follow-up neither persisting endoleak, nor aneursym sac enlargement were observed in any of treated patients.
Conclusions : Squid plays an important role in the treatment of intracranial arteriovenous lesions and seems to be an effective treatment method for endoleak cases ( SquidPeri). This embolic material is characterized by low risk of complications, low probability of recurrence, and permanent embolization results.
