Paula Carmody is the Maryland People’s Counsel. The Office of People’s Counsel represents the interests of residential utility customers. She served as President of the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates (NASUCA) from 2011-2013, and was a member of the Electricity Advisory Committee (EAC) of the Department of Energy from 2015-2017. Ms. Carmody has had extensive experience working on consumer issues. She has over two decades of experience as a residential utility consumer advocate. She also has served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division, Maryland Office of the Attorney General, Managing Attorney of the UAW-GM Legal Service Plan in Maryland, and an attorney with the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau. Ms. Carmody graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree from Antioch School of Law, Washington, D.C. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
