This session is being developed for the beginner but will engage even those who believe they are experts in this field. The session will provide in a very easy to understand way how moisture moves and get stored in building envelopes, how is moisture generated in buildings and then how storage occurs. Examples will be presented to help make cases on the observed moisture conditions in walls, attics and basements.
The session will talk about moisture storage properties of materials, water vapor permeance, liquid diffusivity, and freeze thaw behavior. Moisture flow as a function of vapor diffusion, liquid capillary flow and air flow will all be discussed in detail.
Examples will be provided how moisture can create damage and impact the durability of a number of envelope systems.
