The Smart Home
This session addresses the core capabilities that HEMS must provide in order to be relevant and effective in the utility grid paradigm of the future (or soon to be present). For many years the energy aspect of Smart Homes has focused almost exclusively on saving kWh (with one notable exception of AC load-shifting for DR programs, via either switches or, increasingly, smart thermostats). As we look toward grid-interactive efficient buildings, the requirements for what makes a home, or a neighborhood, smart, change dramatically. This session will cover the key elements that are needed for HEMS to be future proof, what types of technologies are currently available, and what we anticipate coming online in the near future.
