The utility is getting its second chance to play a key role in the smart home. The first yielded modest DR participation through smart thermostats; this second wave promises to be much bigger.
The utility needs to engage now to ensure these three tenants of the smart home are preserved: 1) Interoperability, 2) "Outeroperability", and 3) Energy Efficiency. This session will teach the utility how this can be done.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Be able to identify the tenants of the smart home that the utility can affect and how best to go about doing that
• Understand the challenges a regulated utility faces in engaging in this arena and some best practices to over come them, from a customer-first approach
• Be prepared to engage stakeholders (internal and external/ customers, vendors, and regulators) to move forward with smart home demos, pilots, and programs
