Category I Combustion Vent Systems Simplified

There are two entire chapters and more information in the Annex of the NFPA 54 ( National Fuel Gas Code) in regard to venting. That’s a lot of guidance and rules. This session will look at vent systems from a (mostly) visual perspective in regard to evaluating the viability of a vent. It is a part code and part “better than code” presentation which attempts to simplify the process to 5 general rules in regard to having vents that will be robust and predictable. The goal is to make vent system inspection accessible to everyone even if you are not a heating contractor.

• Review fundamentals of vent system operation that are important in recognizing when a vent might or might not work properly
• Be exposed to when “better than code” is appropriate versus “minimum” application of code
• Gain some insight into the predictability of vent system operation
