The interconnections between health, housing, and energy consumption are increasingly apparent. This session includes two presentations focusing on the impact of energy efficiency on household health. The first presentation will (1) examine existing literature on energy efficiency and its ability to address health impacts and energy insecurity; (2) discuss a successful program that addresses tests IAQ approaches in low-income homes in Chicago and (3) share preliminary results on health, energy, and IAQ outcomes from the study. The second presentation will discuss Maryland's Enhanced Weatherization pilot program, highlighting program best practices for new installation measures, additional diagnostic testing results, and measurement and verification results. Both presentations provide examples of innovative methods and strategies for achieving effective health outcomes through energy efficiency programs.
