Director of Forensic Nursing
Jenny Black BSN, RN, SANE-A, CA-SANE is the Director of Forensic Nursing at Austin’s SAFE Alliance. She is the comadre of Eloise House, a free clinic that provides medical care, evidence collection, and consultation to people in the immediate aftermath of sexual assault. Along with overseeing the day to day operations of a community based forensic clinic, Ms. Black trains other sexual assault responders and helps other communities start similar programs. She cultivates robust informed consent, unconditional positive regard, and secondary trauma amelioration in health care’s response to sexual violence.
Ms. Black has been a forensic nurse since 2007 and has cared for over 1100 people in that role. She received her undergraduate degree from Texas Woman’s University. Ms. Black is certified as a sexual assault nurse examiner by the Texas Office of the Attorney General and the International Association of Forensic Nurses. She served as a cochair for the Travis County Sexual Assault Response and Resource Team and is currently serving a second term with their executive committee. In previous incarnations, Ms. Black was a bodyworker, a prop master, and a dinosaur on kids’ tv. Ms. Black believes that one of the most important functions of forensic nursing is to reduce suffering.
