Sail/Canvas/Screen: Heritage Preservation and Recovery across Geographies and Media
This panel brings together researchers who examine culture, design, and art in Indian Oceanic settings with an aim to explore how research-practices undergird heritage-preservation, the recovery of (lost) histories, and the circulation of knowledge. Crossing the terrain of pedagogy, aesthetics, and community engagement, the researchers are equally invested in thinking about flows of culture and knowledge that link the past and present traverse seemingly diverse geographies. In this, the panel queries how research in art, design, and culture functions as a tool in the settings of the classroom, the art gallery, and in public spaces to disseminate knowledge and spur community dialogue.
