Arlene E. Dent MD, PhD, is a physician and Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital with a secondary appointment in the Center for Global Diseases at Case Western Reserve University.
She earned her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, and a PhD in anatomy and her medical degree from the Department of Medical Sciences at Indiana University. Dr. Dent completed her residency in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. She completed her training with a postdoctoral fellowship with the Center for Global Health and Diseases at Case Western Reserve University, specializing in pediatric global health.
Dr. Dent’s research interests include how children develop immunity to malaria and the impact of co-infections such as HIV on global child health. She spends approximately 80% of her time actively engaged in research in these areas and travels frequently to Kenya where her studies are on-going. 20% of her time is spent at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital as a Pediatric Infectious Disease specialist consulting for hospitalized children with serious infections.
