Dr. Patrick Joseph is originally from West Virginia and graduated from the University of West Virginia School of Medicine in 1973. All of his subsequent training in medicine, infectious diseases, and laboratory medicine has been at the University of California, San Francisco, and the California DHS state laboratories. Dr. Joseph is currently board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and director of four clinical laboratories.
Dr. Joseph is a Fellow of The Infectious Diseases Society of America and The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. He is a Past President of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. His IDSA activities have included Clinical Affairs Committee, Annual Program Committee, Fellows meeting faculty, Clinical Practice meeting faculty, and a moderator at the annual IDSA meeting for the last nine years.
Since 1980, Dr. Joseph has practiced hospital epidemiology clinical infectious diseases in private practice and in an academic setting as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California. Since 1983, he has also been the intricately involved with the initial validation and release of numerous assays for viral and bacterial diseases.
