Retail Food Program Specialist/ Consumer Safety Officer

Barbara Kitay is the Office of Partnerships Retail Food Specialist at the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and assists local health departments achieve their food safety goals via the standards. She is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS), an FDA CFSAN certified Standardization Officer, and a Consumer Safety Officer (CSO).
In addition to working for the federal government, Barbara has extensive experience working for state, local and tribal levels of government and has over 30 years of experience in field of Public Health.
She has spent most of her career in the food safety industry, gaining experiences in areas such as: conducting risk-based inspections; hiring and training food safety inspectors; and the development and implementation of a solid food safety inspection program built upon the FDA Model Food Code and the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards. Standards are her passion.
