In this session, presenters will describe their efforts to establish a regional shared Information Technology (IT) service model, Capital Consortium Information Technology Regional Office (CCITRO), for a ten-county area utilizing IT best practices and a hub and spoke model (nine rural and one urban county). An evaluation, funded by the RWJF Sharing Public Health Services small grant, found that the CCITRO model resulted in better IT services for a ten-county region with limited resources. Implementation was made easier because all county health departments were part of the Florida Department of Health and utilized a common financial platform. This regional approach to providing IT services could be used by other health departments in close geographical proximity as long as appropriate business agreements are in place.
