Emerging Trends in Public Health
Pre Conference - 120 Minutes
Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have made it much quicker and easier for local health departments to communicate their programs, services, resources, and other important messages to their audience. Unfortunately, many local health departments lack the funding, capacity, or knowledge to efficiently leverage this sort of media.
This workshop will discuss how local health departments with a limited or nonexistent communications budget can best leverage partnerships and implement best practices to bolster their social media channels. The presentation will provide an overview of the social media basics of Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, provide a brief introduction to analyzing metrics, and explore how local health departments can partner with other local agencies and community-based organizations to extend the reach of social media messaging.
