In this session we will explore a possible solution to making CPT more widely accessible to F-1 students through partnership with your campus's Career Center.  Join a PDSO, an immigration attorney, and a Career Services staff member to explore this option, and the career development benefits that come with it!

David E. Gluckman is an immigration attorney and Director in McCandlish Holton’s Immigration Practice Group in Richmond, Virginia. His expertise includes temporary-visa petitions, permanent-residence applications for family-based and employment-based applications in all categories, citizenship, the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, and federal litigation of immigration matters. David is a NAFSA member and has presented at the last three NAFSA Annual Conferences and several Region conferences on hot immigration topics. Outside NAFSA, David regularly presents directly to students, faculty, scholars, and university administrators on immigration topics.

Michelle L. Massey, MA

Michelle Massey currently serves as PDSO and Associate Director for International Student and Scholar Services at UMBC, where she leads UMBC's efforts in providing international student immigration advising and support to F-1, J-1 and H-1b students and scholars. She has presented numerous sessions at NAFSA regional and national conferences, and currently serves as a Regulatory Ombudsman for Student Issues for NAFSA Region VIII, in addition to being an active NAFSA Trainer Corps member. She earned her MA in Intercultural Communications from UMBC in 2010.

Jennifer Spencer Heilman

Assistant Director, Internships & Employment
University of Maryland-Baltimore County Career Services

Jen is an Assistant Director on the Internships and Employment team within the UMBC Career Center. Jen primarily serves technology students within this role and works with a high volume of international students involving CPT and UMBC's internship practicum course. She acquired her M. Ed. in Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and her B.S. in Sociology at Grand Valley State University. She also possesses Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) and Strong Interest Inventory (SII) certifications.

Previously, she was a career specialist at the University of Baltimore, and prior to that, she spent three years supporting academic and career success at Harford Community College. Jen began her career as a case manager working with youth transitioning out of the foster care system.
