From Ice Breaker to Fire Starter

Are you feeling tired of your same old icebreakers? Do you have team-building burnout? Does the thought of networking and small talk keep you in your conference hotel room? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this is the session for you. Professionals at all levels are invited to kick off the conference with this fun and interactive session. Presenters will facilitate various exercises that can be adapted for a variety of settings including staff development and student programs. Participants will leave the session with a toolkit of fresh adaptable icebreaker activities. You bring the coffee, we’ll bring the fun.

Jacklyn Fisher, MA

Assistant Director for Study Abroad
Towson University

Jacklyn Fisher is the Assistant Director for Study Abroad at Towson University where she advises for the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji and is the primary coordinator for TU's Horizons Study Abroad web-based management system. Jacklyn has previously presented on study abroad re-entry activities, risk management in pre-departure orientations, assessing student development in study abroad, as well as on liberal arts education at various national and international conferences. She earned an M.A. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in German and International Studies from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA.

Katherine Heird Villamar, M.A.

Associate Director for Study Abroad
Towson University

Katherine Heird Villamar serves as the Associate Director for Study Abroad at Towson University has been working in international higher education capacities within the U.S. and abroad for more than a decade. Katie also teaches Intercultural Communication in the Department of Communication at TU. Prior Towson University, Katie served as the Assistant Director of International Education Services at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and as an International Programs Coordinator at the Centers for Interamerican Studies (CEDEI) in Cuenca, Ecuador. She holds a Master's degree in Intercultural Communications from UMBC and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from Salisbury University.

Eva Wong, PhD

Director of International Students, Scholars, and Programs
William & Mary

Eva Wong is the Director of International Students, Scholars, and Programs at William & Mary. Eva has been actively involved with NAFSA at the regional and national level, including serving on the Region VIII team as the Campus and Community Programming representative, serving as a proposal reviewer for the annual conferences, and becoming a mentor to new professionals. She is a frequent presenter at the Region VIII conferences and has co-facilitated the pre-conference workshop, “Breaking into the Field of International Education”. She has also participated in NAFSA Advocacy Day. She holds a PhD in Education from UC Santa Barbara.
