Examining the Education Abroad Advising Lifecycle of an Engineer at a Big Ten and an Ivy

This session will examine the engineering study abroad advising process considering factors such as curriculum integration, program portfolio, office structure, and student language experience. Special attention will be given to comparing program and advising models at a large public and a medium-sized private institution. This session will offer attendees strategies to better support engineering students in the study abroad advising process based on lessons learned from existing models.

Engineering Abroad Advisor

Harrison Gill currently serves as the Engineering Abroad Advisor in the A. James Clark School of Engineering's Office of Global Engineering Leadership at the University of Maryland. In this role, he serves as the primary advisor for engineering study abroad and exchange students at UMD. As a recent transplant to Region VIII, Harrison previously served as an Education Abroad Advisor at Portland Community College and obtained an MPA and Master of Arts in International Education Management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies prior to working at UMD.

Jacob is a Global Programs Manager at Penn Abroad, a division of Penn Global at University of Pennsylvania. Jacob collaborates with students on various semester abroad programming as well as works with institutional partners abroad to facilitate meaningful programming for Penn students. Jacob holds a Bachelor's in Spanish, Master's in Counseling, and Doctorate of Education. Jacob also serves as NAFSA Region VIII's Networking and Membership Coordinator.
