Implementing Internationalization Efforts at a Small Institution

Thursday, November 14
2:30 PM - 3:45 PM

Internationalization is an institutional objective across the region. It is not only a monumental task, but often a cultural shift. In this session, the Office of Global Initiatives and International Student Services at Cedar Crest College, a small liberal arts institution in Allentown, will show how small intuitions can promote and manage the strategic goal of campus internationalization. By restructuring offices, working with stakeholders across campus, implementing new programs, increasing accessibility and services for a diverse population of students, our offices will share the ways we offer global experiences at home and abroad.

Stefanie Schloo

Coordinator of Global Initiatives & International Programs
Cedar Crest College

Before even starting college, Stef made it her mission to have impactful and immersive experiences abroad. Her first was a 6 week internship in Wuxi, China. After having her mind blown by her first experience abroad, she craved more of what international education can provide - experiences that challenge and shift your entire worldview, and help you solidify as well as question your identities. With that in mind, Stef sought as many international experiences as she could. She went on three study tours, 2 service trips to South Africa, spent a semester in Rome, interned at the Vatican, and has traveled to over 26 countries across the globe. She has experienced the power of international education and uses it to impact her work as a Coordinator of Global Initiatives. Stef advises students on studying abroad, but also works to prepare them for what study abroad can mean, so that they have the most holistic and immersive experience they can. Stef currently works at Cedar Crest College, a small liberal arts women's institution in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
