Megatrends: Envisioning the Future of International Education

Thursday, November 14
1:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Location: Frederick

It’s been ten years since the great recession began to reshape the face of higher education in the United States. Since that time, the share of colleges and universities listing internationalization as a high priority in their strategic plans has declined, foreign language programs have been gutted, funding streams have slowed and costs have spiraled. More recently, the number of incoming international students has begun to decline, while education abroad numbers have risen modestly. It is within this context that we ask: is the golden age of international education over? If it is, what will replace it? How can we best be prepared? In this interactive session, we will seek to understand the confluence of a variety of economic, social, political and demographic trends that are shaping international education - and higher education more broadly - and chart a way forward together.
