Hear from a panel of higher education professionals about how they have utilized the NAFSA Academy experience in their unique roles within their diverse institutional settings. Presenters include both current and past Academy cohort members with a wide range of years of experience in the field of higher education. Whether you have recently joined the field or are a seasoned professional looking to develop new skills within international education, this session will offer a variety of perspectives on how the NAFSA Academy experience can be tailored to your individual professional interests and goals.

Stacy Burger

Director Global Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives
Lehigh University Office of International Affairs

Stacy is Director of Global Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives at Lehigh University (PA). In that capacity, she manages all international partnerships and promotes campus-wide comprehensive internationalization. Additionally, Stacy oversees privately funded international scholarships, as well as the incoming student exchange program.
Prior to this role, Stacy served as interim Director of International Services overseeing ISS, ESL, communications, partnerships, and the incoming exchange program. She has extensive experience living and traveling abroad both personally and professionally. Stacy participated in cohort 14 of the NAFSA Leadership Academy and organized the Global Sponsorship events for Lehigh at the 2018 NAFSA conference in Philadelphia.

Stacey Gustavson

Enrollment and Student Access Manager
Montgomery College

Stacey Gustavson is the Enrollment and Student Access Manager at Montgomery College located outside of Washington D.C. Montgomery College is a very large community college with students representing over 160 countries. Gustavson more than 13 years of professional experience in community colleges and that experience, in combination with her experiences as an international student and volunteer abroad have sparked a profound commitment to meaningful cross-cultural experiences, campus internationalization, study abroad, international student development and services, higher education access, equity and inclusion. Her work is firmly grounded in the principles of Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights- "Everyone has the right to education."
Gustavson is currently a participant in NAFSA's Academy for International Education and is an active member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers where she participated in a working group to develop a policy paper advocating for inclusive admissions policies for displaced and vulnerable students. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Montgomery College Staff Council, subcommittee co-chair for the President’s Advisory Board on Equity and Inclusion and member of the Montgomery College chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges. Recently, Ms. Gustavson chaired Montgomery College’s inaugural Equity Summit and she is a graduate of Montgomery College’s first President’s Innovation Leadership Institute. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts from New York University, a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Pennsylvania State University and is currently pursuing a doctoral program from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Educational Policy, Organization and Leadership: International Education Administration and Leadership.

Nora Maurer

Associate Director of Education Abroad
West Chester University of Pennsylvania

Nora Maurer currently works as the Associate Director of Education Abroad at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where she has served since 2015. Prior to her current institution, she worked at Bowling Green State University in Ohio for 10 years in various International Education positions. Nora holds a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and Ethnic Studies from Bowling Green State University and a Masters in Higher Education Administration from University of Toledo.

Assistant Director of International Programs
West Chester University of Pennsylvania

In my role at West Chester University, I work closely with international students, faculty, and staff to support internationalization initiatives through the development and implementation of special outreach projects. I am also a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). I provide advising for all admitted F and J visa students, including immigration matters, SEVIS maintenance, cultural adjustment, new student orientation, campus integration, and post-graduation benefits.
