Safety, Security, and Support: State Department Resources for EA Programs

In this interactive session, learn about U.S. Department of State resources that serve U.S. students, faculty, and administrators prior to departure, during international travel, and during an overseas emergency.  A representative from the U.S. Department of State will provide an overview of services such as Travel Advisories and emergency replacement passports, then focus on crisis management by working through case studies and examples provided by education abroad panelists.

Morgan Morris Inabinet

Assistant Director of Global Health, Safety, and Security
University of South Carolina-Columbia Global Carolina

As Assistant Director of Global Health, Safety, and Security in the University of South Carolina’s Study Abroad Office, Morgan is responsible for risk assessment, crisis management, and regulatory compliance in education abroad programming. In her role, she designs protocols and policies to support students, staff, and faculty traveling abroad for education abroad programs. Prior to entering the field of international education, Morgan Morris worked in international law enforcement at the U.S. Department of Justice Office of International Affairs in Washington, DC. Morgan earned a B.A. from Furman University in history. As an undergraduate, she spent a summer studying Mandarin in Suzhou, China; a semester completing coursework focused on the European Union in France, Germany, and Belgium; and a semester completing an internship at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, Scotland. She is a member of the NAFSA Education Abroad Regulatory Practice Committee and holds a committee position in Pulse, a national network of international health, safety, and security professionals in higher education.

Christine Menand

Christine Menand has been the coordinator for study abroad and exchange programs in the Office of International Education at Carnegie Mellon University since March 2008, Previously, she had worked in academia at the University of St. Thomas, College of Business and in the private sector at the Center for International Business and Travel. Menand's primary responsibility is working with students and departments in regard to study abroad and also coordinates and facilitates our university student exchange programs. Menand has currently taken on the role of [east coast] UK Consular Affairs Liaison, joining the NAFSA Consular Affairs Liaison subcommittee this January. A 2008 new NAFSA member, Menand has presented at the NAFSA Region VIII conferences each year since 2008.

Mary Rogers

Program Manager
Arcadia University

Mary Rogers has worked at The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University since 2011. In her current role as a Program Manager, she implements and administers the admissions process for applicants to Arcadia's programs in England and Wales, which includes extensive advising on visa requirements and processes for the United Kingdom. Prior to this, she served in an administrative role that included processing visa paperwork for Arcadia's diverse portfolio of programs offered around the world. She serves as a volunteer board member for her local library, is a mentor with the organization Big Brothers Big Sisters, and has had short fiction published in a variety of literary publications.
