Process and Outcomes: Leveraging Resources and Support For Diversity Outreach

In a small study abroad office, resources can be sparse. Learn how to leverage existing resources, such as affiliations and on-campus partnerships, especially those related to diversity outreach and support. This presentation will discuss recommendations and examples on diversity programming relating to Education Abroad.

A first-generation college student, Rose had the opportunity to study abroad twice as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, College Park. These experiences, as well as her interest in culture and history, prompted her to work as a Peer Mentor in the Education Abroad Office until graduating in December 2016. Upon graduation, she secured a full-time position with College Park supporting and advising for faculty-led programs. After transitioning to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in September 2018, she is now working with all program types from faculty-led programs to incoming and outbound exchange.

Rachel had the opportunity to study abroad as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. This opportunity shaped her future career goals. After graduation she started working at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County as an Education Abroad Advisor and has been there for three years. Her main focus points are advising students and helping them navigate UMBC's Global opportunities ranging from Faculty-led programs to affiliate and exchange options. Rachel also focuses on promoting and advising for study abroad scholarship opportunities for students. She has recently taken on the credit transfer process and is working on curriculum integration at UMBC.
