Seminar - 90 Minutes
Rural America: Where is it, who lives there, and what difference does it make? It is roughly 46 million people, 60% east of the Mississippi and almost half in the South. Nearly 10M live in poverty, highest among racial and ethnic minorities, as well as the elderly. It harbors declining populations, limited infrastructure, transportation, employment and educational opportunities. Compound this with limited dental provider availability, high costs, lack of fluoridated water and limited oral health literacy. As depressing as this may seem, things are changing with an evolving policy environment, new technologies to integrate oral health into overall health, and the beginnings of improved data collection to "tell the story" and make a case for improving rural oral health. Our experienced panel have lived this story and walked the walk. They have action steps to share, not simply pious platitudes! Come hear what difference improving rural health will make!
