S began working with birthing families in 1999 as a doula and childbirth educator, went on to complete nursing and midwifery education, and eventually owned and operated an independent homebirth midwifery service. S is currently a graduate student at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Their research interests converge around health equity, social justice, and the sociological and cultural intersections between health, gender, sexuality, and race. S identifies as non-binary and uses they/them/theirs pronouns.
