In this workshop we will provide a general overview of the insurance denial processes for state provided and private insurance plans. This workshop will focus on the benefits of medical legal partnerships led by community based organizations. Through facilitated conversations and case study presentations we will provide workshop participants with some basic techniques that can be used in supporting community members facing insurance denials with a specific eye towards how providers and community organizations can best set community members up for success should their case require further legal action.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Participants will gain a better understanding of insurance denial processes with a focus on pieces of these processes can be led by community organizations and when legal assistance is recommended.
• Community leaders and providers will leave workshop with a clearer idea of how to be the most effective advocates for community members facing insurance denials.
• Workshop participants will learn how to track trends and commonalities in insurance denials to support policy advocacy efforts.
