This workshop will provide an overview of Howard Brown’s new surgery navigation program for trans and gender non-conforming (TGNC) patients. Howard Brown’s surgery navigators provide case management to TGNC patients seeking gender affirming surgeries, including insurance assistance, support with obtaining required letters and other documents, information on surgeons and procedures, and recovery care planning.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the fundamentals of insurance policies governing gender-affirming surgery access.
• Upon completion, participants will be able to list concrete strategies that can be utilized by healthcare provision agencies to lessen barriers to gender-affirming surgery access.
• Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the standards of medical necessity that determine insurance coverage for gender-affirming surgeries.
