Mini-Symposia
Gender dysphoria, oppression, and trauma are all experienced bodily, as are resilience, connectedness, and joy. When clinical providers are attuned to the life experiences of trans clients, integration, healing, and empowerment can be fully supported as embodied experiences.
Panel members will describe somatic strategies for working with trans people, focusing on case examples of trans people whose embodied experiences exist at the intersections of multiple forms of oppression such as trans people of color, neurodivergent trans people, trans people struggling with eating disorders, chronically ill trans people, and trans people exploring and healing from transgenerational traumas. Somatic inquiries and interventions for working with sexuality, gender, and intimate relationships may also be presented.
Questions will also be explored about embodied cross-cultural mirroring and attunements in the clinical relationship, how differences in cultural embodiments can be tracked and explored, and the role of the clinician’s somatic experiences.
Panel members use training in a variety of somatic therapy modes, including the following: Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Psychophysical Therapy.
