Modeled after National Clinician Consultation Center for HIV at UCSF, TransLine is a nationally available e-consultation service that aims to increase provider competence and confidence in caring for trans patients by providing an easily accessible online clinical support tool. All consultation questions are answered by a vetted expert in trans health within two business days. TransLine was established by Lyon-Martin in 2012, but has grown to be a truly collaborative project. E-consultation questions are currently fielded by trans health experts at Lyon-Martin, Fenway Health, Howard Brown, Chase Brexton, Main Line Health, and Cooley Dickinson Hospital. One challenge we observed, however, was that everyone followed their own organization’s protocol…which were all different. We sought to reconcile the different protocols, publications, and individual clinical practice quirks to create one all-encompassing guide. That way, no matter what provider is on-call, the user will receive more consistent answers. To achieve this end, we created a trans health work group, bringing on additional providers from the LA LGBT Center, Callen-Lorde, Whitman-Walker, API Wellness Center, Legacy Health, and Care Resource to help us develop a hormone therapy guideline to inform our answers on TransLine. TransLine is volunteer-based, and is truly a labor of love and passion for, and commitment to, the trans community, as well as provider education. After six years of work, we are here to present our utilization data, as well as our new Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy Prescriber Guidelines, developed collaboratively using an evidence-based and consensus-drivel model with the collective knowledge and expertise of trans health experts from all over the country.
