This poster will present different considerations for improving the inpatient experience of a patient following gender affirming surgery. Hospitals have historically not been designed with transgender patients in mind, which has required creative solutions for making hospital spaces welcoming and safe. Finding solutions requires ongoing collaboration, evaluation and reconsideration at all levels of inpatient service.

 

Learning Objectives:

• Share experiences with health care workers in other facilities about managing different challenges faced in hospitals for patients in pre-operative, operative, post-anesthesia and inpatient care areas.
• Identify steps that can be implemented in each participant’s facility to improve patient comfort in their care environment.
• Establish a network of professionals working in similar environments to offer each other ongoing support and guidance.
