Prime Review Board
Dr. Schonfeld is the Director of Prime Review Board, an independent IRB established in 2017. In this role, she is responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and improvement of the entire Human Research Protection Program, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Prior to joining Prime, Dr. Schonfeld was a senior executive specializing in clinical and research ethics both the US Department of Veterans Affairs and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). At the EPA, she was responsible for the oversight of all human subjects research conducted or supported by the agency, as well as for the Human Studies Review Board, a Federal Advisory Committee established by regulation to review third-party human subjects research submitted to the EPA for consideration. She is a former faculty member of both Emory University, where she directed the MA in Bioethics Program and the Program in Scholarly Integrity, and of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she served as Vice-Chair of the Institutional Review Board. Dr. Schonfeld has over 75 publications and 50 presentations, has reviewed grants for the US Department of Defense, has served on Data Safety Monitoring Committees, and was the ethicist on the National Cancer Institute’s Late Phase Emphasis Adult IRB.
