My current research focuses on the development and clinical validation of safe, accurate, and efficacious nonenhanced MR angiographic techniques. QISS MRA will provide a safe, robust, and cost-effective alternative to standard-of-care CT angiography and contrast-enhanced MR angiography, which expose patients to risks from ionizing radiation and iodine- or gadolinium-based contrast agents. Research efforts currently involve the application of QISS and other nonenhanced MR imaging techniques for evaluation of the peripheral arteries, great vessels of the chest including the pulmonary and coronary arteries, and neurovascular imaging. In addition, we are developing techniques that will allow MRI to reliably depict vascular calcifications as well as calcifications in other organ systems such as the kidneys. Other active research efforts include the development of highly-accelerated cine arterial spin labeling methods for evaluation of blood flow patterns throughout the cardiovascular system, and the application of advanced non-Cartesian techniques for improved cardiac imaging.
