Supports and Services
In the US about one million households are headed by parents living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Too often these parents and their children experience stigma and substantial barriers in accessing supports. The Positive Parenting of the United Arc of Turners Falls, MA is one of the few agencies within the country providing supportive services to parents living with I/DD and functional limitations. Training and community collaborations are one of the main focuses of the program. This workshop will provide participants a better understanding of the challenges these families face and successful strategies when working with this population. Throughout the work done at The Positive Parenting Program, we have had success at building partnerships between providers. In this training, we will also identify the difference between the systems of disability and child welfare and strategize how to bridge the gaps.
