Melissa Bangle, M.S. is a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology, with a specialization in rehabilitation psychology, at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout her doctoral training she has worked on several grants focused on the development and implementation of innovative assistive technologies for people with disabilities, most notably vision impairment and blindness. In addition she completed part of her clinical training in the outpatient psychological support clinic at The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Under the mentorship of Dr. Frank Lane, PhD., she is currently assisting as a senior doctoral research assistant on a clinical trial funded by the National Institute of Health to test an intracortical vision prosthesis device in people who are blind. Her research interests include adjustment to disability, the psychosocial impact of neural implants, research ethics, and rehabilitation engineering.
