Ona Bloom, PhD, is the inaugural director of the SCI research program at at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research. She has a primary interest in immunodeficiency, a comorbidity of spinal cord injury leading to a high incidence of infections, which is the primary cause of death for this population. She is an Associate Professor and Director of Research in the Dept. of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell and, the research entity of Northwell Health. Dr. Bloom is also a member of the VA’s National Center for the Medical Consequences of spinal cord injury (SCI) at the James J. Peters VAMC, Bronx, NY. She earned her PhD from The Rockefeller University in cellular and molecular neuroscience and conducted her postdoctoral research in cell biology and immunology at the Yale School of Medicine.
