Pediatric therapists and a physiatrist from Chicago, Michigan, and Florida will discuss the benefits of early power mobility. An overview of exploratory, operational, and functional learners will be discussed. Nilsson and Durkin's Assessment of Leaning Powered mobility use (ALP), the Drive to LearnTM program, the Power Mobility Training Tool (PMTT), the Pediatric Powered Mobility Program (PMP), and the Wheelchair Skills Checklist (WSC) will be reviewed, discussing how each can be incorporated into a therapy program. Various power wheelchairs, ride-on cars, and other power mobility devices will be introduced with discussion focusing on the pros and cons of each.
