Research Fellow; Postdoctoral Scholar
DUKE-National University of Singapore; , University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus – United States
Ted Kheng Siang Ng joined the Center for Aging, Research & Education (CARE) at DUKE-NUS Medical School as a research fellow in March 2018, after completing his PhD in Psychological Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Ted’s previous research includes wet laboratory biological research and the examination of effects of mindfulness and horticulture using randomized controlled trials, leveraging neuropsychological tests and biomarkers.
As a result of his past research experience, Ted is keen to examine issues pertinent to aging utilizing more holistic bio-psycho-social approaches. He is currently spearheading the biomarker research as a new initiative in the center, to complement the center's existing psychosocial programs. To this end, he is leading collaborative projects with multi-disciplinary teams in search of biomarkers of aging, physical frailty, depression and dementia. On another of his research trajectory on psychosocial issues, he is investigating aging-related psychosocial constructs, including successful aging, loneliness, and social networks.
Apart from primarily affiliated with DUKE-NUS, Ted has previously served as the principal clinician (Asia-Pacific region) with MedAvante-Prophase. For this role, he evaluated and provided feedback on the scoring and quality of clinical interviews and neuropsychological tests conducted at the clinical trial sites in Singapore, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Additionally, Ted has been invited to be an international scholar with University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus by A/Prof Patricia Heyn. His agenda there would be to formulate hypotheses and lead manuscripts for the cerebral palsy (CP) cohort study and to facilitate collaborative studies internationally.
