Somerville, Massachusetts – United States
Carrie Callahan, PT, ATP has been dedicated to the wheelchair-using population during her career as a therapist. Graduating from Ithaca College in 2003 with her Master of Science in Physical Therapy, Carrie went on to take her first position as a staff clinician at a small outpatient neuro clinic in Michigan, focusing on both the pediatric and adult population. Following this short stay in Michigan, Carrie went on to pursue her career in neurological rehabilitation, working at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston from 2004-2014. During these ten years at Spaulding, Carrie developed her knowledge and passion for seating, positioning, and wheelchair mobility, with an eventual advancement to Clinical Specialist on the Inpatient Spinal Cord Injury unit. This knowledge and experience helped to prepare Carrie obtain her Assistive Technology Professional certification in the spring of 2014. In early 2015, Carrie decided to follow her passion for both power and manual wheelchair technology, and signed on with Permobil, TiLite and ROHO. Carrie currently holds a position with Commonwealth Care Alliance as a part of the Rehabilitation Team, where she procures equipment necessary to keep individuals with complex medical needs in the community. Carrie stays closely connected with teaching manual wheelchair skills and her love for the adaptive sports field through a non-profit that she helped to co-found in 2010 called Empower Spinal Cord Injury. On any given weekend, you can find her not only helping wheelchair-users get around in their community, but also helping to get them back on a bike or out on the water at local cycling, surfing, and kayaking events, as outdoor activities are a very important part of her own daily life.
