Anne Fleischer is an associate professor in occupational science and occupational therapy at Eastern Kentucky University. She teaches courses in advocacy and foundations in occupation-based practice. Within the advocacy course, students work within the community to advocate for those who do not have a voice. In her other course, students learn the importance of considering culture, religion, geography and demographics of the clients when collaboratively creating an evidence-based therapy plan. Her research interests surround breast cancer survivorship, specifically understanding the process of returning to valued occupations after diagnosis and treatment. Prior to her academic career, Anne worked as an occupational therapist for 28 years; primarily in the areas of neurorehabilitation, and oncology rehabilitation. She worked 24 of the 28 years at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem North Carolina.
