I am a board-certified Rehabilitation Psychologist with over 25 years of clinical care, research, and administrative leadership experience in rehabilitation with persons who have TBI, SCI, stroke and other injury- or illness-related, or developmental disabilities. My research experience includes molecular level studies to elucidate complexities of TBI, randomized controlled trials of treatments for persons with disabilities, and development of measures to assess, characterize, and track progress in recovery and adjustment. My career foci, research interests, external research support, and publications reflect over a decade of enthusiasm for developing, testing, and measuring outcomes of treatments. I have explored improving precision and sensitivity of measures and have examined covariates such as gender, injury severity, activity levels, health status, ethnicity, and psychological variables that moderate outcomes. I been project- or co-investigator on NIDILRR TBI-Model Systems projects including a manualized intervention to improve inpatient TBI rehabilitation progress and reduce burden and improve well-being of caregivers of persons with TBI. I have been PI on an NIH-funded RO1 as well as state or foundation funded projects. My research has received state and federal grant support for the past 15 years. I have been appointed to and held state and national leadership positions in recognition of my expertise and research contributions and to further the field and state of the science related to treatment, adjustment, and outcomes measurement for persons with disabilities. For example, I have served as Ad Hoc reviewer for NIDILRR, as appointed grant review panel member for NIH/NICHD, and on the U.S. Secretary of the Veteran’s Administration Advisory Committee on Prosthetics and Special Disabilities Programs. In addition to extensive mentoring of students, residents, and pre- and post-professional rehabilitation providers, I have led both clinical and research departments within PM & R as well as professional organizations for the past 12 years.
