As a Core Investigator with the South Central MIRECC and the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System and Research Associate Professor at the LSU School of Medicine, Dr. True conducts health services research with medically underserved patients. With over 20 years of experience and expertise in designing and implementing mixed methods research, she collaborates closely with colleagues across the country, serving as a Co-Investigator on over 30 NIH, VA, or foundation-funded studies. She has a background in community-based participatory research (CBPR) with over 15 years of experience conducting community-engaged research. She was previously Co-Director of the Qualitative Core of the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion, spent 5 years as Co-Director of the Qualitative Evaluation Core for the Medical Home Evaluation Center (one of the Demonstration Labs funded to evaluate implementation of the Patient-Centered Medical Home at the VA), and have an extensive track record of successful collaboration on grants involving interdisciplinary teams of clinician and non-clinician researchers. She recently completed a 3-year participatory action research study using photovoice to engage Veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their family caregivers in identifying gaps in needed care and resources to support community reintegration, resulting in a traveling exhibit of photo-narratives entitled "From War to Home: The Impact of Invisible Injuries."
