Doug Ota, MD, joined the VA Palo Alto Health Care System SCI/D Center in 2000. Dr. Ota has served as Director of SCI/D Outpatient Services since 2001 and Chief of the SCI/D Service since 2014. He received his medical training at the University of Utah, completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Stanford University, and then an SCI Medicine Fellowship at the Stanford University/VA Palo Alto HCS. He is board certified in both PM&R and SCI Medicine and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Stanford University. Dr. Ota has developed a patient-based focus of clinical research, including participation in the implementation of a clinic to clinic telemedicine program using the Hub and Spokes model; validation of telehealth for assessment of secondary conditions; and a multi-site vocational rehabilitation study using an individual placement and support employment model. Currently, he is the local site principle investigator of a Cooperative Study Program multi-site study investigating Exoskeleton Assisted-Walking in Persons With SCI: Impact on Quality of Life.
