Children's Hospital Colorado
Denver, Colorado – United States
Irene Beam M.S. CCC-SLP is the speech-language pathologist within the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Hospital Colorado. Irene has had a close connection with cancer since losing an immediate family member during her childhood. After assuming multiple roles in a variety of charitable organizations dedicated to cancer research and patient support, Irene sought ways to incorporate this population into her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist while getting her Master's Degree at James Madison University. As such, she completed a full-time clinical externship at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in 2013. Irene learned to appreciate the complex rehabilitation needs of pediatric oncology patients for long term quality of life. After moving to Denver, Irene spent three and a half years in an adult AAC practice before advocating for an oncology specific speech-language pathologist position to join the growing oncology rehabilitation team at Children's Hospital Colorado. The speech therapy program quickly grew to support inpatients and outpatients within the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Her role is continuing to evolve as the oncology team expands and continues to serve more pediatric oncology patients.
