Bert Vargas, MD completed his undergraduate and medical school education at the University of Arizona in Tucson and his internal medicine internship at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. He then served as a United States Air Force flight surgeon after which he completed a residency in neurology at New York University. He returned to Arizona for his headache medicine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and is now the director of the UT Southwestern Sports Neuroscience and Concussion Program.
He has been a sideline neurotrauma consultant for Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University football, and Arizona State University women’s soccer. He is currently working as an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant for the NFL and NASCAR.
He is on the board of directors for the American Headache Society (AHS) and the headache Cooperative of the Pacific. He is also the president of the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy. His practice remains focused on headache including post-traumatic headache from sports-related concussion and sports neuroscience.
